Draw Something was a massive success over a year ago for developer OMGPOP drawing millions of users in just a few weeks. It’s popularity got the attention of Zynga who bought the company for $180 million. Sadly things didn’t go so well after that as users stopped playing the game causing Zynga’s shares to fall from $14 to $2.4.
Draw Something 2 has been unveiled by Ryan Seacrest via a tweet. ”I somehow convinced them to give me #DrawSomething2 first… this may be the best Mariah & Randy have ever looked.” At the bottom of the tweet was an image containing a very well done drawing of two very well known American Idol judges, Randy Jackson and Mariah Carey. Not long after that Dan Porter, VP of Zynga, sent out a tweet with the logo for Draw Something 2 and officially confirming the game’s existence saying, ”Thanks! So excited to confirm #DrawSomething2 is coming with new ways to draw & connect.”
Zynga is no doubt looking to rise from its financial pitfalls with Draw Something 2, which should be quite easy considering that Ryan Seacrest is hosting and producing a show based on the game giving it a massive publicity boost. Pictionary was a popular board game and TV show, so a Draw Something equivalent makes quite a bit of sense. However, it’s success is overshadowed by the failure of some of Zynga’s other sequels such as Cityville 2 which flopped and was shut down. Zynga desperately needs to bring back their lost players with Draw Something 2, and keep them for the duration.
