Ubuntu Touch Compared

Ubuntu Touch

Last week, we finally got a first hand look at Ubuntu 12.10 Touch. Now that everyone’s had time to go hands-on with both Ubuntu for Phones and Ubuntu for Tablets it’s pretty clear that the developer preview was just that, a preview Some application were only screenshots of what the applications will look like. But, the operating system shows promise for great things to come.

Ubuntu, at this point, is not stable, and in no way is it viable as a daily driver. Sure, you have your basics – dialer, SMS, HSPA+ connectivity, camera, etc. But application support is virtually nonexistent and the preview suffers from all sorts of performance issues, such as lag, freezing and frequent random reboots. For now, it’s just fun to play around with and compare to other, existing platforms. In the video below, I compare the navigation and design of Ubuntu for Phones with Android Jelly Bean.

Pocket Now have done a great series of comparative videos in case your thinking of trying it out. You can also check out this Ubuntu Touch walkthrough.
